Under the national constitution, every Thai resident is covered by health insurance. There are three health insurance schemes:
– The compulsory scheme for private-sector employees.
– The voluntary scheme for entrepreneurs, farmers and the like.
– A universal scheme for the most disadvantaged.
In practice, medical centres and hospitals are fairly evenly spread across the country. With their local health card, residents can be treated at no cost.
