Ivory Coast

When you work in Ivory Coast, you come under Ivorian social security legislation (except for posted workers, who are covered by a France–Ivory Coast agreement). It is essential to protect yourself with a sufficient level of health cover.

Cost of hospitalisation in Ivory Coast

A day in hospital in Ivory Coast will cost you around 300,000 CFA francs.

HEALTHCARE IN IVORY COAST

The healthcare system in Ivory Coast

The Ivorian social security system does not provide health insurance. Only workplace accidents and occupational illnesses are covered, under the auspices of the Caisse Nationale de Prévoyance Sociale (CNPS). This state body also manages old-age insurance and family benefits.

Self-employed workers are not required to register with the CNPS against workplace accidents and occupational illness, but they may choose to join voluntarily in order to benefit from its protection.

Local people are priced out of the Ivorian healthcare system, whereas for a European it remains affordable for everyday care. The quality of care provided, however, falls well short of European standards. There are a few private clinics reserved for the elite, at much higher prices. Ivory Coast health insurance with repatriation cover is therefore strongly recommended.

Useful information

Ivory Coast is one of the countries with significant levels of expatriation. It is essential to familiarise yourself with the country’s particularities before you leave. To be sure of answering all your questions about your stay, we invite you to consult the dedicated official French government page: ADVICE FOR MOVING TO IVORY COAST.

Once you are there, should you run into difficulty, you have the emergency numbers below. You can also contact the French embassy. And of course, for any question relating to your health cover and your reimbursements, you can contact us.
